It’s Alive!

It’s alive! ALIVE!

The new version of SiteMaker works with my simple test site. I have not tested the navigation code or subdirectories more than one or two levels deep, but the code is now cleaner, doesn’t change directories much, and no longer needs to be in the same directory as the site. I’ll test the rest of that stuff soon. It took me nearly 3 hours of hacking last night and another hour or two today. About half an hour of that was spent fixing the test site (which had a few errors) but things look good now. With any luck, I’ll be switching over to using the new code-base for this site within a day or two.

So what can I do now with this new code base? I have a few ideas, here are some of them:

  • RSS - Should be easy to convert blog sections into RSS feeds.
  • Categories - Add a little icon showing what category a blog entry is in.
  • Galleries - Automatically changing lists of pictures into web pages for me, allowing me to put up galleries of artwork, photographs, or whatever.
  • Links - Automating the links section from a flat file to something better.
  • CSS - Should be possible to change things like which CSS style sheet gets included in web pages based on the directory they are in, etc.
  • Times - I could put times on blog entries as well as dates.
  • And more…
