So I bought an XBox 360. I’ve been meaning to for a while, but I consider them too expensive. I had a large pile of games to trade in, and with a 30% bonus coupon for GameStop that I found this was a great chance. So I bought one. Let’s see what it’s been doing so far…
I took it out of the box. The thing is really heavy. Much more so than you would think for something it’s size. And that doesn’t include it’s huge power brick. Why is it so large? I have no idea. The thing is almost as big as the UPS I have my TV and such on.
Setup is clearly MS style. A really stupid almost campy (but worse) video about how great my XBox360 is and how I should be nice to it… not to mention how to unpack it. One slight issue: I already unpacked the thing. The system and all components coem in colored plastic bags that says things like “Welcome” in a ton of different languages… very reminiscent of Apple.
It updated it’s software, which took about a half hour. My Wii can update it’s self in about 2 minutes. Surely the 360 can’t have a system image 15x bigger can it? The best part is how the system is incapable of doing anything at all while this is going on. Nothing like getting a gaming system that I can’t use for the first 45 minutes.
Geometry wars is quite fun. I’ve also been playing Forza 2. It’s fun, but I think I prefer my racers more arcade, like the Project Gotham series.
