Motorola RAZRs Hate SMS

January 24th, 2008 · No Comments

So what happens when you get 100 SMS messages in the span of about 90 minutes in clumps of 20 or so messages? Your RAZR becomes useless.

For various reasons a watchdog system I’m connected has been misfiring this morning. When an alarm goes off on it, I get a text message. I’ve got to say my RAZR’s way of handling these (it’s a V3C, on Sprint) is abysmal. First, an incoming message takes over for anything going on. Anything. This means I can’t delete the old messages, because a new one comes in taking focus away before I can do it. I can’t look up phone numbers in my phone book, because a message comes in and takes focus away.

But the best part of all this is that when a message comes in, the phone freezes for 1 or 2 seconds, then tells me about it. It’s quite clean in the interface that this happens. If the phone stops responding for a second… you know a message is coming in. This added to the phone’s general UI responsiveness is aggravating, to say the least.

I wonder if the GSM RAZR is any better?
